Projection space rebrand

The projection space is being repainted for the new year, and rebranded with the name Cinn. There is planning to set up a weekend film club. We're still in the idea stage of how it will work, it could possibly be a members club, where you would sign up pay a small fee and be able to use the projection space at weekends. For a trial we'll be holding some free film nights to gage the level of interest. The free nights should start mid January, with some theme nights like comedy and sci-fi. Any ideas or interest in setting up a weekend film club please mention it to a member of staff.

Thank you.

To mark the end of another year at The Drop Inn we would like to say a big thank you for all the support we've had again this year! Together we have achieved a lot, especially this year with the take over late last year. We would appreciate any feed back from the Youth members, any complaints or any word on projects you've enjoyed and wouls like to see again this year. I know that sounds official and boring, but if we don't hear what you think we cant change things in the New year, thank you!

Look forward to some new and exciting projects beginning in the new year, have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

See you all in the New Year!

The work on the band room has started, with a new door being fixed and shelves put up for the equipment. Over the Christmas break it will be re-painted and all the band equipment will be moved back into place.

This is the proposed Logo for the band room. We just need to go through the list of names proposed so the window graphics and posters can be completed.

Re:union

This was the first re:union for The Drop Inn, so it was a trial to see how successful it would be to hold an over 18's party for the original members. We raised the age limit to 20+, to make the divide between members. The usual age limit is up to 17, so we wanted to attract the older member that would have been through The Drop Inn a few years ago and moved on. It was fun trying to chase everybody up. The night was crazy and really nice seeing everyone again!

Flickr Book

As well as collecting designs to use for the T-shirts, We'll also be collecting some of your smaller doodles to adapt for a flicker book. In the new year The Drop Inn will be releasing a new line of advertisment and hand outs, such as leaflets and new stickers to brand things. A new idea is to produce a flip book, with news related clippings, youth art work, pictures of projects and some short stop frame animations and messages from the youth. This project is entirely experimental, for some fun. However if it works, we will think about producing loads of flicker books to send The Drop Inn message around communities and schools.

Performance Concepts

Some of the idea's a caffine induced meeting with Riff Raff produced:

We've been thinking of producing a film for our presentation in the new year, but then having elements of live performance with a projected film to compliment it.

One of the idea's is to create a silent film then create a live sound track (performance of trash drumming + beat boxing)to go with it. Then pause the film footage and act parts of scenes out, so it's a mix of live performance and projected film.

PLease email any ideas you have or tell a member of staff, we would love some story boards sending in so we can scan the ideas ...

Cheers Adie, Tom, Ben + Josh

Portland College 2008 visit

It was another really enjoyable trip up to Portland college. We played wheelchair basketball again. It's so hard to co-ordinate a wheelchair while trying to pass a basketball around. So of us got the hang of it.

Wheelchair basketball

The scariest picture of Calum to date. Definatley the funniest performance, wheel chairs are really hard to control while playing a sport, everyone but Callum got the hang of it, well done to all who took part!

Stuck in the action.

Instead of spinning the wheelchairs round, people started throwing basket balls in all directions.

I was really impressed with Dan's beatboxing duo with one of the Portland members.

The warehouse side will still be let out after the band room is finished but more for practice gigs. As long as people give plenty of notice, we would be more than happy for bands to come down and have live music jams in front of a small audience. The advantage with this is you can see the crowds reaction, and get instant feedback for your performance. We'd love it because it's live entertainment which it's so much better than sticking a CD on!!

Broken beats

After a recent escapade to the good old city of Worcester, i have returned t the drop inn yet again inspired for another project. On the streets of the city i came across two busking hippies, but rather than the cliche guitaring associated with busking, they had completely customized their own drum kit. Using nothing but empty paint cans, tins and three large plastic buckets.
So i've kind of borrowed the idea for a more up to date trash drumming session (which will intertwine with project poi, and the U.V project to create a performance).

All i need is for some minions to take on the role of wombles and collect empty tins/ paint cans, anything that will make a bassey or industrial sound, and bring it don to the drop inn. that way we can build our own drum kit and bring out a drop inn style to break beat drumming. sound good? obviously not yet, cos we've got nothin to make noise with.

so on request, real in the beats and we'll set to work *ting*

cheers a bunch
hear ya soon

-Adie-

D.I.Y Fashion (Drop Inn Youth Fashion)

The idea got leaked the other night, the idea is to hold a fshion week in spring next year. You will be modeling your own clothes, clothes designed by youth for youth. The idea was goin to be kept secret till the new year. But now it's out in the open, we can start the research for the project ahead of schedule with two companies already in mind to produce a collection of the clothes and accessories. At this stage we are looking for designs and fashionable ideas. The main project still wont start till the new year, but people can start thinking about designs! It'll be an exciting new project to begin the new year with!

Ju Jit Su

We've had a Ju Jit Su class taught at the Drop Inn for a year now. It's been kept quiet because it's taught to small groups. There is some space at the moment but still limited spaces, with a maximum of 10 people. It's £4 a session, no membership required. The sessions are 5.30 - 7.00 every friday! Please get in touch if you interested in learning some self defence.

U.V Update

The main feature wall has had it's first coat of graffiti, which now covers the wall all the way to the apex. It's looking really good! Theres going to be a few artists calling in over the next few weeks just to come down and build some more layers of graffiti, and inspire some more crazy art work. Then the U.V lights will be installed ready to high light all the favored graffiti areas.

The scale of wall we had to reach for the main graffiti wall wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for the support of Belper Scaffolding Services Limited. They have been supportive of us for years always calling in for a cup of coffee and a chat, recently they came in and set some scaffold up for us to reach the whole feature wall safely. If any body needs Scaffold from a reliable friendly service get in touch with John Weaving on 07815 860458, or visit Belperscaffolding.com!

We safely tied a ladder to the scaffold and to the beams running across the roof, only staff were aloud to paint the top, this is why it doesn't look as good as the rest.

We have come up with some new idea to get some paint up on the ceiling. The most fun idea was to buy in some old unbrellas and bring some old clothes down. Cover the walls in pastic sheets and material to hid all the graffiti, move all the funature out the way. Then the fun bit, fill water bombs full of bright paint, and hire a paint ball gun and go mad for hours. If this does go ahead it will have to be at the weekend, it will be very messy!

I've found some websites and videos that are inspiring for some U.V instillation art work (some futuristic looking sculptures to fill our space)
We could probably make some things like the light bricks (click link below)
U.V Brick I was thinking of trying to make some crazy tables and foot stools, any other ideas you come up with let us know! Video of some U.V instilation art, this is an idea of some of the art work we could be aiming for?

Sponsors

We have our first official sponsor, Fusion signs. They have been very supportive for the last eight months, and the last six months they have been donating all the Drop Inn stickers you may see around. Recently they have donated all the materials for the production of business cards, posters and still the continuity of the stickers. So now they have been made the first official sponsor of The Drop Inn. Thank you for the support Fusion Signs!!

If there are any other local companies or invetors that would like to sponsor the future (youth) get in touch, Thank you!
